Xubuntu Console/Terminal exit trouble.

Good Evening. I'm trying out Xubuntu (having used  for sometime). Clicking on apps: gt; Accessories gt; terminal...... didn't get me into a terminal  -   as I know it. On searching your forum I found that alt + Ctrl + F2 got me a full page terminal, and I did my cli stuff.
But how to get back to my desk top. I tried 'exit' and loads more; 'halt' eventually shut down my computer, but only after an argument over password.  I'm sure there is some kind person out there who can help. I noticed that the terminal/console (what's the difference) called itself 'Bash' as in , but there's no Find app: here or is there.
Anyway my main question is how to exit the terminal to desktop and as always my thanks to those who reply.........................sarum

Have you done a complete install of Xubuntu (or installed xubuntu-desktop from )?

If it is a fresh install - Applications-gt;Accessories-gt;Terminal should bring up Terminal.

If this doesn't work, try Alt+F2, and type quot;xfce4-terminalquot; then Return.

And Appfinder is in Applications-gt;Accessories-gt;Appfinder (or Alt+F2-gt;quot;xfce4-appfinderquot;).

If you use Alt+Ctrl+F2 to exit X (to get to CLI), I'm afraid I have no idea how to get back to GUI (maybe startx).

ctrl-alt-f7 gets you back

Thanks ugm6hr for your reply and comments, and also to Riel who had the right answer.........cheers sarum.
