What is the difference between installing with a live cd or using the alternate cd. Seems like my machine won't boot with the live cd and it will with the alternate except when the alternate is almost done it fails the installation.
If your machine wont boot with the live cd, you should check the integrity of the downloaded image, etc. (Did you check the md5sum?).
What exactly is the problem when you try to install with the alternate cd - a more detailed explanation may get you some answers.

The Live CD boots into an aptly named quot;Livequot; environment, essential you actually boot up the near full os. You can then test it out, browse the web and of course click install from the desktop. It is somewhat resource intensive though and in some specific hardware cases it will fail. The alternate CD is a text installer, it works on any machine (has less requirements than booting the disk and is less complex). My preference is the text based installers, that may be due to my dos days though...

Neither should be failing, certainly not the alternate at the end. Please verify they are good burns like Raja suggested by following this guide. Pay careful attention to md5 sums at EVERY step, it will ensure perfect CDs are produced. If they continue to fail even after CDs check out good, post the specific output messages and we will diagnose from there if needed.
With all the problems I've had, I could do an install with Edgy so I did that and now doing the upgrade. Sometimes I do stupid things and have to start over. Like I had a real brain fart today and put the home folder in the trash. I know the two discs I have, the live and the alternate were ok at one time because I've used them for successful installs before. Anyway tonight I burned another ISO of the live cd on my iMac. I'm not sure after reading what you guys posted I know how to do that check on my iMac. I'll copy that ISO and get it over to the Linux machine and try to do that check.
Thanks
