I was messing around with themes and what not and ended up deleting the top panel. So, I added it back but now it doesn't act the same as it used to. For instance, when I would X from say, Azureus it would drop its little icon up to the top panel. It would actually close it, as X in AZ just drops it into the task menu? Same thing with gaim....maybe im just missing something here....any ideas what im talking about?
thanks a bunch guys.
By X, you mean the icon on Windows that you click to close a program or window?
X by itself means something totally different in the Linux world.
Anyways, if when you click X, the program goes to the taskbar (panel) instead of actually closing and ending the program, then that is generally an option within the program. Some programs will allow you to choose what happens when you click the Close Window (X icon) button.
Did I understand you correctly? We can only hope.
I guess I shouldn't have implied that I broke X, as in Xwindows. But you got the jist of it. Az, gaim both will go to the task bar upon hittin the X. To actually close them you need to right click and blah, but now hitting the X closes them instead of dropping them to the task bar. I cant seem to locate the option within the programs to remedy this either...
Maybe Im just being fussy though. What did the top panel originally do?
Personally I only use 1 panel, and that is located at the bottom.
Any panel you have simply does whatever you want it to do. Display icons, display the time, give you a list of programs upon clicking, it does what you want.
But... maybe... just maybe...
Did I understand you correctly? Are your programs going to the panel NOW and you WANT them too? Or are they just closing NOW and you WANT that to happen? Are your programs going to a panel or no? Do you want them to go to a panel or no?
For some reason the way you worded it before is really confusing the hell out of me.

Shouldnt the X or close window button do just that close the program.

Well, now you are being too literal.
Yes, you are right, the X is supposed to close, but in some programs on Linux and Windows (in fact, some very widely used programs) the X icon actually minimizes it to the icon panel in Windows / notification area in Linux.
khardbored: Do you have a notification area on your remaining panel? If not, add it (right click on the panel and add it), then open Gaim or whatever else you were using and close it and see what happens.
Hi. khardbored, I think you're just missing the Notification Area on the top panel; try adding it there (right-click on the panel--gt;Add to Panel); it's almost at the bottom.
EDIT: Ek0nomik beat me to it...
