Auto Security Updates

There is an update that is described as Unattended Upgrades.  I passed on that one - sounds too much like Windows to me - not that the two are in any way similar - I trust , just don't feel like having anything happen automatically.

What thinks everyone else.

I think: do whatever makes you comfortable.

Ummm, last time I checked the only way any updates get applied is if you give you approve of them and give root password. I installed that package, it hasn't installed anything without my permission (it still asks for root pass to install any upgrades). I found a page here about it. I think its purpose is to allow admins to set a computer to automatic updates, even if the user doesn't log in with root (say if a non techie family member is set up with  and doesn't remember the pass or check it often), if they choose to. That way they aren't bothered with the pop ups/pass. I don't think its activated by default, it just sits there waiting for you to set it up. No worries,  isn't trying to make you paranoid, just give you options.

I saw that update also, and just let it install. Frankly, I'm not far enough along with the learning curve to pick and choose updates, besides there's plenty of space on the hard drive, and I'm never sure if a future update is dependent upon one I rejected.

When there are updates, I spend a bit of time to read what each one is, and if I don't understand it, I look it up, to at least have some idea of what's happening.
