fluendo / Kaffeine / .wmv problem

I am trying to get the fluendo codecs working with my fresh Feisty install, and I'm having a problem with .wmv playback.

So far I can play .wmv in Firefox (using the mplayer plugin). However if I try to play a .wmv file off my hard disk with Kaffeine, it complains about a missing codec. I'm thinking that maybe the difference is that mplayer plugin uses gstreamer and Kaffeine doesn't? But I have no idea how to check if that is the case and if so, how to fix it. Also, mplayer does not play the .wmv file off the hard disk either ... it will only work from inside Firefox.
