REQUEST: Automatic removal of unanswered threads
I would like to propose that there be an automated script that deletes any thread that has: a) no replies by any other than the OP and b) is at least one month old. This would reduce clutter, as most people repost the same question after a couple days of no answer. Also, a person is not likely to keep track of old, unanswered posts. These are my two cents.
What about people who use the search ?
People may find the same thread via the vbulletin search or google and bump the thread asking if the OP has solved it, or once bumped it may be solved by someone else who didnt see it the first time around.
Point taken. Then I guess I would add a third qualifier, c: OP posts identical question afterwards.
If you see a thread re-posted (same problem, second thread), report it so that the second thread can be deleted.
The first thread should be bumped by the OP (say, after 24 hours) if there's no answer. A second thread on the same problem (for the same person) should not be created.
I have had threads go unanswered for as long as a year, then someone came along and posted an answer. Granted, it didn't help me with the problem when I was having it, but removing the thread would have meant that no one else could have benefited either.
Just a thought.

I've had the same thing happen with some of my threads.
Ok. This is why forums are so great: you can get everyone's input. Thank you all for doing so.
I answer unanswered posts whenever I can, and no matter how old, so deleting them isn't a good idea. |
