Double click word selection

Can I configure the word boundary characters for double click word selection in text areas?

My problem is that I am used to being able to select words containing numbers, dashes and underscores in other desktop environments I use and can't seem to shake this habit. As I spend all day programming and repeatedly attempt to double click to select words containing these characters, this gets quite irritating.

Currently all of these cases break for me:

quot;wordquot;   -- double clicking word will not select quotation marks
word1word  -- will consider 1 a boundary
word_word  -- will similarly consider _ a boundary
word't  -- will stop on the apostrophe

This seems common to all native Gnome applications. There has to be a way to configure it?
