Issues in Feisty amp; Nvidia 7600GT

ok so i've seen MANY methods for getting nvidia cards to work.  everyone i tried either screwed xorg.conf up so bad that i had to revert to a backup, or they worked amp; when i would try to configure my tv, the nvidia settings panel would recognize it - and when i would set it to clone, my windows would lose their borders amp; the terminal window would go blank.

i've only seen this problem happen with beryl (from searching), which i've never used before.  searched around, saw beryl looked pretty sweet so i installed it; beryl had the same effect - either it would render xorg.conf FUBAR or i would get the no window borders amp; blank terminal window.

maybe i'm missing something, the one method for installing the drivers that didn't work was nvidia's... it had be exit gdm amp; x window amp; make sure on reboots it wouldn't reload 'em.  i did this, and i finally got the program to run but then i get an error that it can't find specific setup files for my distro, then it said it would compile it into the kernel for me, then it says i have a libc issue - a header issue or something to that effect.  sorry for not being more descriptive, i'm very new to linux amp; learning a lot.... i've been able to google my way out of every other issue, but this one has stumped me!  thanks!

Beryl maintains a very nice wiki page on how to do this :

The beryl site is down at the moment so I can not give the direct link ...
