Synaptic Package Manager

I just downloaded  7.04 Feisty Dawn to my computer yesterday as a dual-boot with WinXP Professional.  I am already having problems with the Synaptic Package Manager.  I cannot get it to open.  I receive the following error(s): quot;E:The package hl1240lpr needs to be reinstalled, but I cannot find an archive for it.quot; E: Internal error opening cache(1).  Please report.quot;    I tried downloading the package hl1240lpr to my  desktop and installing it by right-clicking on it and clicking on 'Open with Gdebi Package Installerquot; but get an error message quot;Cannot open hl1240lpr, the package may be corrupt or  there may be a problem with permissions.'  I am brand new to  and this is very confusing to me.  What do I need to do to get this problem resolved?  Thanks in advance

Is this a fresh install?  Did you install it from the LiveCD directly or did you use Wubi or the alternate installer?

What does it say when you run Synaptic from a terminal? (Applications -gt; Accessories -gt; Terminal)

I just decided to reinstall  and be done with it.
