Questions, Comments and Wanderings

I just installed - about three days ago- I am definitely intrigued and confused! Looks like a lot of learning to do - but I love to learn anyway  1.?-What is the best resource to truly understand this OS- from a Developer/Programmer/Security aspect? I want to be able to pop the hood so to speak.
Seems fast and stable so far and Firefox works excellently online even better than on Xp Pro. I really love Windows - I confess - but I love computers MUCH more
I want to learn every relevant OS and I find  very promising.
2.? How secure is  - I mean really? 3.? Can it be altered to perform as it's own security system? Can the code be changed drastically - with the knowledge- to make it a Security Operating System still serving app., surfing the net etc?
It feels good to be Using a computer instead of constantly Saving a computer!:

Been using computers off and on since TI/99 and have recently just gotten heavily back into them - what a world we are making

As you know security is relative. In general, IMO, security is much better with a default installation on any *nix compared to  Windows. Both Linux and Windows can be hardened.

In general, the security threats are different between Linux and Windows. With Linux there are currently no significant viruses or spyware. In terms of a server, as with windows, security is with locking down the server.

There are specific distros specifically targeting security. nubuntu, OpenBSD, etc.

If you are interested in security, I liked this book very much :
