when starting without network or wlan: poor performance

Hello,
I am facing the problem everytime I work without any network - e.g. in the train
When I open any application it seems as if my Feisty installation waits for some
connections to the outer world.

Take the Terminal Application for instance - when I press the button a new pane in the task bar is opened saying 'starting up Terminal'. This remains there for about one minute (varies quite a lot) and then the Terminal is about to use.

Has anybody got an idea which setting I need to set so I can also work without network ?
