Lost desktop in xubuntu

Hey guys, I've got a problem with my xubuntu install.  Everything was working fine until recently, when I lost my desktop.  I no longer have any icons, but when I go to the desktop folder, I have all of my files there.  I also can't drag any files onto the desktop.  Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?  I recently installed Automatix, but I don't think that could have caused it.

go into your xfce settings and you should find settings similar to quot;Allow XFCE to manage my desktopquot; or close to it.  Check that box and you should get your desktop back.  I'm at work and i can't tell you exactly where int he menus the setting is, but its fairly obvious once you find it.

Awesome, that fixed it.  Thanks for thge help.  Now I can get back to enjoying my laptop.  Quick question, do you know why the nm-applet starts several instances when I start up the computer?

No clue.  Due to my obtuse wireless configuration, I don't use network gui's.  (I assume thats what nm-applet is anyway).  I'm also using 6.10 edgy, which doesn't include network manager by default.

Nope.  But I do know a way to solve it.
