Have now gotten totem-xine up and running okay, but have a couple of questions. I've done a number of google searches hoping to find something on whether or not totem-xine supports closed captioning for the deaf -- something that's quite important to me because I'm stone deaf, myself.
It's a different system entirely than the subtitling one finds and in many ways, I prefer it to subtitling simply because it's generally ten times easier to read it, quickly, than most subtitles. Quite a few of the DVDs out from TV shows come with CCing but no subtitling whatsoever.
So, does totem (either xine - gstream) support CCing? Are there any plans to do so in the future? It kind of looks to me, right now, that it might not.

Hi. According to this site, Neither Totem or Mplayer support captions included in the video, only from separate files, so I suggest you give VLC a try; seeing as you're running Dapper and taking into account the author's comments, you have at least two choices: either install VLC through Synaptic (if you don't plan on viewing H.264 videos with it), or download a newer version from VLC's site if you do. Hope this helps.
Thanks! I'll do that indeed.
