Feisty Live cd isn't loading
Hello to all and big thanx for any help given.
I am having trouble with the Feisty live cd.
Right now I am using Kubuntu Feisty 7.04. I upgraded from Edgy with the upgrade tool the people at Kubuntu were asking people to try out and it all went well. I also downloaded and burnt a few Kubuntu 7.04 images for friends and did an md5 sum check on each disc. I could get into the live cd environment no problems. I haven't tried 7.04 yet, however, and am wanting to try it out. I have never had much success running Gnome and KDE so want to do a fresh install of 7.04 on my root partition whilst retaining everything in my home folder except for all of the hidden KDE settings files which I will delete before installing 7.04.
My problem is that I get the black screen of nothingness a few seconds after hitting the 'boot and install' option on the initial live cd login window. I can't understand why because, as I have said, Kubuntu 7.04 is working well. I have tried a couple of boot options like 'noapic' (I have to use the 'irqpoll' option on the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst' to be able to use my wireless card and to have my usb devices hotplug).
Is there any other options I can try?
Or, would I be better off installing the basic Gnome packages with Synaptic or apt and remove all of the KDE stuff with the same medium when I have Gnome working ok? I would prefer to do a fresh install so any help?
I am using an Amilo 7310LW pro Notebook with the dreaded and utterly pony Via Unichrome pro graphics.
I am itching to get back to gnome now.
peace
