Where do my files go when I download them?
Sometimes, when I download programs from the package manager, they install and put themselves in the applications menu. That is all fine and dandy, but sometimes, when I try to download programs, they download and install fine (i guess) but I dont see them in the applications menu, and I can't find them in the file system.
Im sure they're there, but I just dont know where to look.
For example, I downloaded all the packages I thought i needed for Direct Connect (a peer to peer filesharing program), but it didnt show up in the menu, and I couldnt find it in the file system. How can I find the actual executable, and make a shortcut for the applications menu?
And where do files go when I download from the package manager?
Are you downloading with firefox? If so. Editgt; Preferencesgt; Main Tab then check Always ask me where to save files. It will then prompt you each time where you want to save the file. Or you can click Save files to and select a location.

If you right click on the menu icon you can edit menu...sometimes the menu needs to be refreshed manually. If it's not there, open up a terminal (or just click quot;runquot; in the menu) and type in the application name. |
